Tennis: Bulldogs win seventh sectional in a row

Make it seven in a row. The Batesville Bulldogs have collected seven straight tennis sectional trophies after Saturday’s 5-0 win against host East Central in the sectional final.

At No. 1 singles, Batesville’s Caleb Mohr won 6-2, 6-4. At No. 2 singles, Batesville’s Jevan Smith posted a 6-4, 6-0 victory. At No. 3 singles, Batesville’s Carson Meyer blanked his opponent 6-0, 6-0.

Batesville’s No. 1 doubles team of Lincoln Garrett and Wes Peters gave up just one game in each set, winning 6-1, 6-1. At No. 2 doubles, Batesville’s Landon Raver and Owen Westerfeld posted a 6-1, 6-2 win.

The Bulldogs move to a 14-6 dual match record on the season and will face off against the Seymour Owls in the opening round of Regional 5 Tuesday at Columbus North.

At Columbus

The Columbus North Bull Dogs defended their territory by knocking off Greensburg in the tennis sectional final 5-0 to advance to the regional they will host beginning Tuesday.

At No. 1 singles, Alek Devidze defeated Greensburg’s Mason McNulty 6-3, 6-0.

Columbus North’s Max Wei defeated Greensburg’s Will Weber 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, Columbus North’s Jace Branham won 6-1, 6-1 against Greensburg’s Brody Sanders.

Columbus North’s Teddy Littrell and Vince Sasse won the No. 1 doubles match 6-1, 6-1 against Greensburg’s Wade Schutte and Reece Chapman. Columbus North’s No. 2 doubles team of Luca Devidze and Jaishal Padmanabhan posted a 6-3, 6-0 victory against Greensburg’s Jaxson Phillips and Max Buening.

At Connersville

Connersville won the sectional title with a 5-0 victory against Rushville.
