John Wayne almost missed out on big role after ’white supremacy’ comments

JOHN WAYNE starred in the 1972 film The Cowboys, but an interview he gave the year before left him at risk of being cancelled in the 1970s after saying he was a “white supremacist”. These comments followed more he made about the civil rights movement.
