Pound US dollar exchange rate: GBP/USD climbs as Trump threatens national emergency

The pound gained on the US dollar today, and is currently trading around $ 1.279, as President Donald Trump prepares to sign a government funding bill that was overwhelmingly approved by Congress. However, Mr Trump’s threat to declare a national emergency is seen as a further affront to Congress, and is proving a drag on the “greenback”.
