Startup Village Launches SV.CO Online Entrepreneurship Courses
On August 15th, the digital version of Startup Village, called SV.CO, will launch a free online course on entrepreneurship as well as a more intensive course to prep to give potential tech startups the tools they need to succeed.
The course aims to bring the best industry practices to engineering students so that they can build successful startups. The course is designed for young people and students in any year of school, and the platform has increased the organization’s intake capacity to five million students, reports the Hindu.
The digital incubator SV.CO, which has been billed as Phase 2 of the Kochi-based 2012 Startup Village, was launched in July by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
According to the Startup Village website:
“SV.CO is the first learning platform for entrepreneurship that verifies results & rewards founders with a real degree by partnering with recognized universities.”
Startup Village has also designed the six-month Silicon Valley Programme to be intensive for particularly ambitious students who want to build a real product and launch it to consumers while they remain in college. There are no textbooks or exams.
The last week of the Programme will be hosted in Silicon Valley. Only teams are accepted, and SV.CO can take up to 100 teams to its intensive in its first year.
Sanjay Vijayakumar, the chairman of Startup Village, also set up one o the first college startups in India, called MobME. He said:
“While #StartInCollege creates mass awareness, the Silicon Valley program helps bring the best startup industry practices to engineering students to build world-class startups.
“In the world of the internet, students don’t have to learn formulae by heart or write exams, but can show real products using real technology to real customers. A global exposure to Silicon Valley will tremendously enhance confidence of our youth that they can build truly global Indian companies.”
According to the India edition of Entrepreneur Magazine, the Kochi Startup Village has been ranked in the top 100 best startup incubators in India.
Since 2012, the organization has supported almost 600 physical and digital startups in Kochi and 200 in Visakhapatnam, reports CIOL.
