THE LAKE District has long had a special place in my heart, ever since reading Swallows and Amazons as a child and desperately longing to join the swashbuckling gang and enjoy ripping adventures in boats. However, their jolly japes always took place in the summer – so how do the Lakes fare as a winter holiday destination?
