Xbox One VS PS4: Hideo Kojima Says PlayStation 4 GPU Wins, But Does It Even Matter?
The Xbox VS PS4 console battle has famed video game creator Hideo Kojima claiming the PlayStation 4 is definitely the better gaming platform at least when it comes to graphics.
In a related report by The Inquisitr, I gave my top five reasons why I’m buying a Xbone over a PlayStation 4, but I’ve also declared Microsoft’s claim that the Xbox One GPU is just as fast as the PS4 the gaming lie of the year so I’m no fanboy. I also believe the PS4 GPU is still relatively slow and will hold back PC gaming. I’d also suggest checking out my article comparing the compare the Radeon Ro 290X to the Xbox One and PS4 GPU as a primer for where graphics technology currently stands.
This is why Hideo Kojima says the PS4 wins the console battle over the Xbone:
“I think, between the home consoles available… [Sony’s] PS4 is the best. It’s also excellent for graphics, being able to render 1080p at 60fps with room to spare. Since it does it a little better than other hardware, the image quality of the PS4 is the most beautiful.”
Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and some people have noted there are declining returns in graphics technology. For example, Daily Finance claims most gamers won’t even notice the difference:
“While the seventh generation Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii were notably flashier than their sixth generation counterparts, the “wow” factor had diminished substantially…. Many games have been released on Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo consoles and mostly look and play the same. There are plenty of articles that compare exact side-by-side screenshots and videos, but to many casual gamers, the games look roughly the same.”
They also point out that the top five selling games of all time are hardly graphics powerhouses. Instead, it’s the art direction of Mario that made it famous rather than the pretty lighting and high resolution textures, or lack thereof.
The other part of the PS4 vs Xbox One battle that fanboys have been waging war over is the number of sales. Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter claims it’s not the PS4 GPU performance or its gaming features that made it sell more… it’s the fact that the Xbone is $ 100 more expensive:
“Demand would have been higher for the Xbox One than it was, and demand for the PS4 would have been about the same – maybe slightly lower, because some people might have migrated over. I think supply for both consoles would have been about the same. So my guess is the Xbox One would have sold a couple hundred-thousand more and the PS4 would have sold a couple hundred-thousand less. Sony still would have outsold them because they had more supply. And based on what I saw at retail over that six week period [PS4 units] really weren’t in stock for very long, when they were in stock.”
Do you agree with these opinions about the Xbox One vs PS4 war?
