BATH in its eighteenth-century heyday would have welcomed numerous young women visiting in the hopes of meeting an eligible bachelor. The good news is, so did I. Only, mine was made out of wax, based on the fictional Mr Darcy and lived at the Jane Austen Centre. But what else can one do in the 21st century in this beautiful city with no balls to attend or fans to flutter – and, most importantly, where should one stay?
